This system design is for a natural language-based information system for train services. The information involved are travel schedules, departure and arrival stations, ticket prices, as well as one-way or two-way travelling. The system is designed as web-based, with no registration requirement for specific username and password. The scope of the knowledge base is limited to template responses and particulars or the train services. The interaction between user and the system is also limited to text-based, whereby users type to a computer in natural language for the purpose of communicating with the system. Users may inquire about train services that may lead the user to reserve or to purchase train ticket. The user may also pose any questions related to the train services. Likewise, the system may be in the position to answer or to question users on details of the inquiry. Neither the system nor the user is able to fix the conversation into one-way, which means both the user and the system are allowed to ask and to answer questions as they require. In this system design, as user face the user interface of dialogue-based train information system, there is a prompt in dialogue box that welcomes user to the dialogue-based train information system. It also request users hoe the system can help them. When user ask information about the train services such as travel schedule, departure and arrival time, departure and arrival stations and ticket price, the system takes user input as keyword. Same goes to when system ask question to the user, for example confirmation for user travelling whether one-way trip or two-way trip and user reply to system. Here, the user input identified and recognized as keyword. For example, when user asks, "what time the train will depart at angkasapuri?" So, the keyword here is time and angkasapuri. By this way, once system recognizes the keyword, the system will link to train class file. This train class file is actually acted as inference engine for dialogue manager. Then, the train class file links to train.dat file which is a flat text file and act as knowledge base of dialogue system. Keyword matching happen when these two files link. After that, the system responses according to user utterance. At the end of conversation, the system makes confirmation with the user for waht was asked by user.
