Roof Integrated Photovoltaic (RIPV) Mounting System is a modified or an alternative product to other Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) mounting systems in the market that can be used under tropical weather conditions.
Technology / Innovation Summary
A residential RIPV mounting system enables a homeowner to generate some or all of their daily demand of electrical energy on their own roof, exchanging daytime excess solar power for future energy needs (i.e. night-time usage). In addition, RIPV mounting systems are installed to hold solar panels together and retrofit as a part of the roof.
Global solar energy market will grow from USD 39.6 billion in 2011 to USD 75.2 billion in 2016 with a CAGR of 13.7%. The market is largely driven by increasing environmental concerns such as greenhouse gas emission, growing energy consumption especially from emerging countries, increasing investment in renewable energies and etc.
The solar panel market in Asia Pacific (APAC) will reach USD 37.8 billion by 2020, growing at a CAGR of 14.8%. The market is primarily boosted by continued growth in China, India and Japan, supportive government policies in a number of other APAC countries and a surge in commercial rooftop installations across the region.
The total cost of installing PV system is valued at RM 60,000. Assuming 10% of the completed three storey houses are looking into installing BIPV systems, the estimated market size for RIPV mounting system is approximately RM 108 million. As solar PV is still new in the market, we are assuming RIPV system will be able to capture at least 3% of the market demand in 3 years’ time, growing at a CAGR of 14.8%.
RIPV is the first locally manufactured BIPV mounting system that is specifically designed to suit tropical weather conditions. It is a universal PV mounting system that is able to cater for all sizes of PV modules. The installation can be done easily by local building contractors instead of hiring professional PV installers.
