A compact solar air conditioning system that is suitable for residential area which is enhanced by using a flash tank and double ejector system.
Technology / Innovation Summary
The improvement of the cooling system by focusing the attention on adding only a flash tank in an conventional absorption system which has better performance than the complicated double effect absorption system. Hence, making the system more compact and smaller.

The global air conditioning systems market was worth USD 98.2 billion and is expected to reach USD 178.4 billion in 2018, growing at a CAGR of 10.5% from 2012 to 2018. Asia-Pacific accounted for the highest market share (34.4%) in 2012, followed by North America. Asia-Pacific is expected to maintain its leading position for the next five years owing to the increasing disposable incomes of consumers, rising awareness and an increasing trend towards living a comfortable life.
The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) reports that over 30,000 solar heating and cooling systems are installed annually in the United States. However, US market penetration of solar heating and cooling is low, with only 9 gigawatts thermal (GWth) of installed capacity. In China, on the other hand, solar heating and cooling systems are being installed at a rate 10 times higher than in America.
According to the researcher, solar cooling system is projected to be sold for 200 units per year and the solar cooling system will be priced at RM 6000 per unit. Although solar cooling system is still new in the market, with its low energy consumption characteristic, we are assuming solar cooling system by UKM will be able to sell 600 units in 3 years’ time, growing at a CAGR of 10.5 %.
The new designed solar cooling system is more compact and smaller where it is not only for large industrial application but also suitable for residential application. Besides, it is environmentally friendly as it helps to reduce energy consumption as well as greenhouse emissions.
