The Islamic clothes, fashion and design market does not have any prominent Muslim clothing brand to serve the 1.6 billion Muslims population around the world. Globally, spending on clothing and footwear reached about USD 2.1 trillion in 2012 and this figure is expected to reach USD 2.9 trillion by 2018.
Spending by the Muslim population is expected to grow from USD 224 billion in 2012 to USD 322 billion by 2018, comprising about 11.2% of the global spending. Among the Muslim majority countries, Turkey recorded the highest spending on clothing in 2012 worth about USD 24.9 billion, followed by Iran with USD 20.5 billion. Other prominent nations in this group are Indonesia with USD 16.8 billion, Egypt USD 16.2 billion, Saudi Arabia USD 15.3 billion, Pakistan USD 14.4 billion and the UAE with USD 10.2 billion.
Taking into consideration the total cost for AutoCAD and a plotter gives us an approx. unit price of RM 20,000. According to MATRADE (2013), there are approximately 300 garment making companies supplying to domestic and export markets in Malaysia. Taking into account the initial resistance to invest in new software we are targeting only 50 companies in 3 years’ time.
BusanaCAD offers both custom-made and ready-made traditional Malay female apparel where users’ preference on custom-made apparels can be designed by inserting the measurements into the software prior to sewing. It offers a selection of 16 different traditional Malay female apparel patterns. Besides, it saves time in drafting and designing as patterns can be generated in less than 5 seconds.
